I love any book that is set on a gorgeous tropical island with tanned men, local food and girlfriends! So when I picked up Summer Loving I knew I was going to love it.
Beth has arranged a holiday for her and three of her closest friends from university that haven’t seen each other for ages. She has book a villa in Mikonos but gets a phone call from the holiday rep days before she is due to fly out to find out that the villa she was supposed to be staying in has gone bust so they have to transfer them to a different hotel on a different island called Liminaki.
When Beth arrives and meets her three friends Anna, Kirsten and Ginny they are disappointed by the lack of pubs and nightclubs on the island and are unhappy about having to spend two weeks in the same restaurant eating the same food and talking to the same people. However, they needn’t worry because things are about to get fiery on the hot Greek island. Anna falls head over heels for one of the waiters, Beth finds herself a hunky sailor, Ginny won’t shut up about her engagement and Kirsten is obviously trying to hide something from the group. Is their girl’s holiday going to be a holiday to remember or one they’d rather forget in a hurry?
This novel grabbed me as soon as I started reading and found it incredibly hard to put down. I luckily spent the day in the sun reading which gave me a nice summery, holiday feel as I read about the gorgeous Greek island. The four girls were great fun and I enjoyed finding out about all of their lives and why they were behaving the way there were. The male characters were rather dishy and by the end of the book I was hoping for a sailor to come and sweep me off of my feet!
Allie’s writing style is simplistic but perfect. In the past I have written about how I don’t like authors that try and pad their stories out with unnecessary detail and words and Allie certainly doesn’t do that. Her books are fast paced and full of events rather than boring description which I really enjoyed.
The only thing that put me off giving this book 10/10 was the fact I found it quite predictable and there were quite a few aspects of the plot that I managed to guess chapters before they were actually revealed so it was a tiny anti-climax when I realised I already know what had happened!
Don’t let that put you off though! If you are looking for an indulgent holiday read then this is for you!
